Career - Marco Corradi
During my studies of Italian and language pedagogy with emphasis in translation at the University of Hamburg, I came upon the opportunity to work as a freelancer in the Italian Cultural Committee in Hamburg at the same time. I started by translating business correspondence into German, then continued to expand my field of activity. The Italian Cultural Committee’s mission is to promote intercultural exchange between Germans and Italians residing in Germany, and to support Italian immigrants in their social and cultural integration.
Since the Italian Cultural Committee’s tasks are highly diverse, I was able to gain expert knowledge in translating travel guides, newspaper articles, short stories, and essays concerning history and art history. Since my responsibilities not only included preparing regularly occurring informational events, but also bookkeeping, I had to prepare tax returns and balance sheets for both the German and Italian authorities. I was also assigned to work as an interpreter during conferences and meetings.
During my study abroad at the University of Genoa, I learned to prove myself in various communicative contexts.
I acquired the ability to translate from English to German through my second major, language pedagogy. In this course of study, English is the lingua franca, so I was forced to translate all the academic texts into German.
Since 2009 I have worked as a freelance translator, both for translation agencies and private clients.
